Augmentative and Alternative Communication

Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) refers to all forms of communication other than speech, and provides a useful way for children to support their communication in instances when they are having difficulties getting their message across.

Some of the AAC methods used in ESTC include natural sign/gesture, Makaton signing, communication charts and books, PECS* and high tech, iPad/tablet-based communication systems.
